Photoshop Tips – Quick and Easy Photo Vignette
March 20, 2009
Adding a vignette (darkening or lightening around the edges of the photo) is easy these days with the introduction of Adobe Lightroom and Camera Raw. However, the tools in these utilities are limited in flexibility and customization.
The following is a quick and easy way to create either a dark or light vignette for your photo and give you the ability to have virtually limitless control over the effect. Read more
How to Fix the Unreadable Disc Error – Xbox 360
March 18, 2009
A few months ago, I wrote about my disgust with Microsoft because of an unreadable disc error on my Xbox 360. The error, I discovered, was due to a busted DVD drive. Microsoft wanted $100 to repair my Xbox, and I came really close to just paying the fee and sending it in. Guys, I’m really glad I decided to take a look at it myself. The repair was so simple that I had my Xbox up and running in about thirty minutes.
There are tons of really good tutorials and videos on the web that explain how to disassemble your Xbox, so I’m not going to break things down to that level. It’s my hope that approaching the problem from a broad overview will remove some of the fear and uncertainty that surrounds cracking your Xbox 360 open. If you’re not yet ready to repair your DVD drive, check out the different ways you can use your broken Xbox 360. Read more

Why I Need a Kindle 2!
March 10, 2009
I really like to read. Ever since I was little I would read pretty much anything around me. As a kid I would use up most of the hot water in the shower because I would read about the fantastic things the shampoo would do to my hair. The back of cereal boxes weren’t safe, either. Now that I think about it, I ate a lot of soggy cereal as a kid.
Of course, I began to read other things as I got older: comic books, fiction novels, magazines. I even learned to read music, which played a huge part in my life. I’m still friends with many of the people I met in the high school band. I even managed to marry the cute red-head who played clarinet. I like to read!

Make Images Transparent Using Only CSS
March 5, 2009
Most of the time, when you’re needing to have an image fade slightly or become transparent or opaque, you pop open the photo in Photoshop and lower the Opacity slider. Imagine being able to control the opacity of an image using only a few short lines of CSS.
Well, believe it or not this is easily doable, and it works across multiple browsers as well…though, it might not work through RSS feedreaders; if you’re reading this post through your feedreader, you might want to click through to our site to see the full effects of the transparency.
Keep the VPN Connection Box from Popping Up
March 3, 2009
VPN connections (virtual private networks) are wonderful. I use one to connect to work several times per week. I can do all sorts of handy things: surf the network, grab files, print to my office. But one annoyance has been bugging me for a good while now, and I’ve just been putting up with it. Seemingly at random moments, the VPN connection box would just pop up for no reason.
I finally got tired of clicking the cancel button, and decided to figure out just what was causing this problem. Turns, out that Internet Explorer was the culprit, even though I only use Firefox.
